The overall objectives of this subproject (SP) are to harmonize the RTD work of the entire project along the requirements for materials to be processed into compounds and products needed for industrial applications, to define and develop new interfacial technologies for multifunctional compounds from the materials emerging from subprojects 1 to 3, furnished with added functionalities to allow products to operate under extreme environments, and finally to verify the performance of new compounds and products under extreme environments.
A specific work package “Materials Systems Engineering” will ensure that “system issues” are duly taken into consideration within the whole Integrated Project; system issues are all the aspects of the new materials, diffusion barriers and joining techniques development which arise from the fact that these materials and techniques will not be used alone, but have to interact with each other. Two specific work packages will deal with modifying subproject 1 and subproject 2 materials surfaces and tailoring the interfaces, in order to join them to compounds/components for use under extreme conditions; They will deliver compounds for subsequent testing in industrial and operational conditions.
Development targets for these compounds are:
