This symposium covers materials for advanced fission power reactors (Gen3, Gen4) and for other advanced nuclear devices like accelerator driven systems (ADSs), neutron spallation sources (NSSs), and future material test reactors (MTRs). Such nuclear reactors and devices require materials that can operate in extreme environments: high temperatures, irradiation, corrosion, and unidirectional and cyclic loads. Emphasis will be put on new materials and issues related to radiation damage and materials behaviour under irradiation. The following topical areas will be addressed:
• Structural materials: e.g. ferritic-martensitic steels, austenitic stainless steels, oxide dispersion
strengthened steels, Ni-base alloys, graphite, refractory metals and alloys, ceramics.
• Composite materials for control rod application and for hot gas ducts
• Fuel materials: e.g. oxides, metals, nitrides, carbides, and fluorides (liquid).
• Joining techniques.
• Waste management.
• Modelling of radiation damage and radiation effects.
